It's Easy Being Green
Ever since Ian Clark (one of the partners) was young he has always enjoyed and respected the beauty of our lakes and outdoors and has done his best to protect our environment. Even his cottage is 100% off the grid and solar powered. 3 Peaks carries that respect for our environment in how we operate and we believe saving the environment is not about saving money.
Ontario Electronic Stewardship’s electronic recycling program makes it easier for industry to do what is best for the environment, and help keep old computers, televisions and other electronics out of landfill. Everything possible is recycled that we use in the everyday operation of the business. All of our old computer equipment is sent to a professional recycling company, and all of our paper is shredded and recycled.
KEEPING OLD EQUIPMENT OUT OF LANDFILL SITES
REUSING - www.littlegeeks.org located in Toronto Little Geeks is a philanthropic organization, located in Toronto that collects, refurbishes and re-distributes donated personal computers to children in need. These computers are given free of charge, and are coupled with an Internet connection at the child’s home.
OFFICE BUILDING - When 3 Peaks moved into our office in 2005 we took over an old home that was built in 1942. Immediately we had an energy audit done on the building and it received a rating of 32/100. We immediately replaced the furnace, air conditioner, windows, insulated the attic, installed energy efficient lighting and had the basement walls spray insulated. The rating was then increased to 61, with a rating of 51-65 being typical for an upgraded older home, and 66+ for a typical new home.
DATACENTRE POWER REDUCTION - Over the past 3 years we have tripled our infrastructure, but reduced our power consumption as a result adopting forward thinking technologies/equipment.
HARDWARE - All of the hardware that we purchase is selected for it's power efficiency and power saving features. If you have used hardware we'd be pleased to assist with the recycling of it. Even old cables that contain copper are valuable. Visit www.recycleyourelectronics.ca for more information.
